Frank Stella · Minimal / Maximal · Saint-Étienne
The first museum retrospective dedicated to Frank Stella (1936–2024) in France since his passing, this exhibition—spanning nearly 1,000 m² — traces more than sixty years of a constantly evolving body of work through approximately one hundred pieces, including paintings, sculptures, prints, and architectural projects. Conceived as part of a U.S. season celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence, the exhibition benefits from an exceptional collaboration with the Addison Gallery of American Art, which holds a major donation from the artist dating back to his formative years. From the radical minimalism of his early years to the exuberance of his late works, the exhibition reveals to the French public for the first time the full scope of a career that has profoundly shaped American abstraction.
This project drew on all of Partner Fine Art’s expertise in handling very large-format and high-value works of art . Due to their size and structural complexity, several pieces had to be disassembled into separate components, each requiring a custom packaging solution. To ensure the faithful and secure reassembly of each artwork upon its arrival at the museum, our teams developed specific assembly instructions for each piece, detailing the assembly sequence and the technical precautions to be followed. Thanks to this meticulous preparation, the entire project proceeded without incident, meeting the deadlines and conservation requirements specific to works of this scale.
